Postcard Competition

Some of the entries in the 2026 Postcard Competition

The Hilliard Society has always been keen to encourage children and young people into miniature art - first with Mini Masters , organised by by Jenny Brooks and in 2026 Anna Shakesby created the Postcard Competition for children under 18.

We were very pleased to have a magnificent 160+ postcards entered this year from individual children and from schools. Well done to all the entrants - their works look amazing! We very much look forward to seeing entries from next year's budding miniaturists!

Information for Teachers & Parents

The Hilliard Society of Miniaturists was formed by Sue Burton and miniaturist Rosalind Pierson (RMS, HSF, MASF) and its Inaugural Exhibition was held in Wells in May 1982. The declared aim of the Society is to encourage recognition of this art form in general, an appreciation of its history, its present-day development and to bring it to the wider attention of artists as well as the public.

Our members and President are available to conduct talks at schools and colleges regarding the difference between miniatures and larger artworks and how to get started. Part of the mission of the Society is to encourage those interested in becoming miniature artists.

The Postcard Competition will be on display alongside our International Exhibition of Miniature Art at Wells Town Hall, Somerset from Saturday 4th July until Saturday 11th July (closed on Sunday) from 10am - 5pm. Entry is free and we hope to see you there!
