Wendy Gooch HS
Wendy is self taught and has always been an enthusiastic artist since, when a very small girl, she tried to capture an impression on paper of all the beautiful, colourful images and scenery she saw around her, whilst growing up.
Wendy specializes in a wide range of subjects, ranging from wildlife, pet and human portraits, to Scottish herring drifters (fond childhood memories of the harbour at Gorleston-on-Sea, where she grew up) and still life.
She loves to paint in watercolour or oils and is quite happy painting her miniatures on either Ivorine (a man made substitute for ivory), good quality watercolour paper or prepared board for oils. When painting miniatures, she is completely absorbed and lost in concentration and loses all sense of time!
Wendy’s careful and detailed miniatures have been accepted over the past fifteen years by the Hilliard Society of Miniaturists for their annual exhibition in Wells, Somerset. In 1999 she was awarded the distinction of being allowed to add the letters “H.S.” (Hilliard Society) to her work and is very proud of her “Certificate of Excellence.”
Her miniature work has also been accepted for exhibition by the Royal Society of Miniature Painters, Sculptors and Gravers at their annual exhibition at the Westminster Gallery in London. She has also exhibited with the Hilliard Society in the Mall Galleries, London and at Merley House, Wimborne, Dorset.
In addition, she has had small displays of her miniatures in the Crome Gallery, Elm Hill, Norwich and the Tudor Gallery, Theatre Street, Norwich where her works were very much admired.
Although Wendy loves painting exquisite miniatures, she also enjoys painting normal to large size paintings as well.
For instance, as a keen member of a local Gilbert and Sullivan Society, she was asked to produce five 2ft 6 inch wide x 6 ft long full length, life sized, costumed portraits of fellow members, who were supposed to come to life and step out of their frames in the 2nd act of Gilbert and Sullivan’s “Ruddigore”. A comic opera we were presenting at a local theatre (from the sublime to the ridiculous!). It was a challenge she thoroughly enjoyed and successfully completed even if it did cause her very different drawing and painting problems (and back-ache!). See pics below.
